9 Famous Companies That Viciously Manipulated Their Customers

MCDONALD’S | ADVERTISING THE MCRIB AS A RARE TREAT

The McRib is one of McDonald’s most popular limited-time offerings, first introduced to eager customers in 1981. The famous pork sandwich was eliminated from the menu in 1985 due to poor sales. Since then, it was made available on and off, advertised as a rate treat that you simply must buy.

Some claim the elusive product’s availability was related to falling pork prices. Others believe it is simply a tactic for McDonald’s to impose scarcity, motivate customers and boost sales for a product that would not be as popular if it became a permanent item on the menu.
