Protect Yourself
For most of these scams, we’ve also given you a few helpful tips so that hackers and scammers won’t get their grubby hands on your information or money.
But we’ve also prepared a little more information on what you can do to further protect yourself online, especially when you’re in the middle of a much-needed shopping spree!
Verify a Website or App’s Authenticity
Verifying a website or app’s authenticity isn’t as difficult as it sounds, so you should always do it before you order anything online!
For websites, check the URL first and foremost. Most secure websites use “https://” while less secure ones use “http://”. Always look out for this before providing a website with your information. Use Norton’s Safe Web search to also check if a website is good-to-go!
With apps, it’s a bit more complicated. You should always avoid apps that offer deals that are too good to be true. Stick to known ones from brands and developers that you trust. Check BBB.org to see if a business has been accredited or if they’ve received any complaints, too!
