This cake was already really popular in Germany when it became a thing in America. Back then it was usually made at home, but nowadays it can still be found in bakeries.
The secret to this cake stays in the Maraschino cherries that are put on top of it and the whipped cream layering that covers the chocolate, which creates a delicious contrast. Moreover, after it’s done, it’s usually splattered with a cherry liqueur.
