But if you really, really want to be considered a Florida resident, you have to obtain a driver’s license there. Don’t postpone it any longer as a license will be required to vote, file for property tax exemptions, and other actions that will help you establish residency in the Sunshine State.
To get a driver’s license, you’ll need to apply in person at a local driver’s license services center. For a Florida Class E license, you’ll have to pay $48. But this is just the initial license. For a driver’s license fully compliant with the REAL ID Act, you will have to submit a set of documents, as listed on the website of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
When applying for a driver’s license in Florida, it would be a smart move to register your vehicle in Florida, as well. Boats or RVs can also be registered. This will confirm even more you consider yourself a permanent resident of the Sunshine State.
The registration fee you’ll be required to pay will depend on the type and/or weight of your vehicles. Check the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles’ website for a full list of motor vehicles and their associated registration fees. Besides registering your car, truck or other motor vehicles, it’s also recommended to find an auto insurance carrier and insure them in Florida, as well.
