Living in One of These 16 States? This Is Why You’re Struggling to Pay the Bills

Maryland

Before the pandemic, Maryland was $33.8 billion in debt, meaning it could potentially burden its residents with $15,200 in taxes per person to tackle it.

Things took a turn for the worst due to COVID-19, as 110,266 people are currently struggling to pay rent and are behind on payments, while 266,962 households are behind on mortgage payments.

Pennsylvania

Before the pandemic hit, Pennsylvania was $73.8 billion in debt. All in all, that means that each taxpayer would have to pay up $16,400 in order to set the balance straight.

But things are looking far, far worse due to COVID-19, with 158,976 Pennsylvanians losing their jobs since March 13. What’s worse, in the near future, as many as 123,935 people strongly believe they’re going to lose their jobs.

With numbers so high, it’s not surprising that 110,266 people are behind on rent payments, while 234,489 homeowners are behind on their mortgage payments.
