Ever heard of Sofia Villani Scicolone? What about Sophia Loren, ring any bells? Back in 1960 she was one of the most popular film stars in the world after starring in Aida (1953), Two Nights with Cleopatra (1953) and The Gold of Naples (1954).

That last movie was considered a breakthrough in her career, but the truth is that Loren had been working hard on her fame from early on. For example, she won “Miss Elegance 1950” in the Miss Italia pageant at just 16! Around the same time, she also married Carlo Ponti, the Italian film producer behind Doctor Zhivago (1965), who was 37 years old at the time!

Here she’s seen taking a little break from the limelight to enjoy a day in the sun.
