Because photos are truly wonderful but don’t you want to know when and where they were taken? Maybe even why?

It’s time for a blast from the past, so strap yourself in and enjoy.

1 Sharon Tate

Most of us remember Sharon Tate as one of the victims of the tragic Mason Family murders. She, along with four others, was found murdered in the home she shared with her husband, director Roman Polansky, on August 9, 1969. Tate was also eight months pregnant at the time of the attack.

But the above snapshot also helps us remember her talent and beauty. Tate is pictured on the set of Valley of the Dolls where she portrayed Jennifer North and for which she got a Golden Globe Award nomination.

Her character Jennifer was a girl in show business that sadly gets addicted to pills. The movie is based on a novel that went on to become the best selling sensation in the year 1966, written by Jacqueline Susann.

2 Sophia Loren

Ever heard of Sofia Villani Scicolone? What about Sophia Loren, ring any bells? Back in 1960 she was one of the most popular film stars in the world after starring in Aida (1953), Two Nights with Cleopatra (1953) and The Gold of Naples (1954).

That last movie was considered a breakthrough in her career, but the truth is that Loren had been working hard on her fame from early on. For example, she won “Miss Elegance 1950” in the Miss Italia pageant at just 16! Around the same time, she also married Carlo Ponti, the Italian film producer behind Doctor Zhivago (1965), who was 37 years old at the time!

Here she’s seen taking a little break from the limelight to enjoy a day in the sun.
