8 Batgirl — Yvonne Joyce Craig — 1967

Yvonne Joyce Craig getting ready for action on the set of Batman (1966-1968), where she portrayed the crime-fighting Batgirl as the police chief’s daughter, Barbara Gordon’s alter ego. The decision to bring Batgirl on the show was due to failing ratings after just two seasons. Thus, the first superheroine to appear in an ongoing capacity on television was born!

Craig was also known for playing Martha during one episode of the popular series Star Trek, Whom Gods Destroy (1969). Suffice it to say, she was the go-to superheroine of her time!

But after several years in the entertainment industry, the actress/dancer decided to retire and later became a real estate broker. She passed away on August 17, 2015, aged 78.
