Newburgh, New York

Newburgh is the only city in New York’s area and in the whole northeastern zone to rank so bad. And, as you’ve probably imagined, it has earned this distinction because of its high violent crime rate. Out of 100,000 people, there have been reported 1,236 incidents, which is three times more than the rest of the U.S. violent crime rate.

On top of that, Newburgh citizens have to face difficult economic conditions. The city’s average household income is $36,922 a year, which is $20,000 lower than the U.S. median. Newburgh’s residents have a hard time living there because there are higher costs of living. Unsurprisingly, Newburgh’s population has dropped by 1.5 percent.
