Yazoo City, Mississippi

This city is one of the poorest in the country. More than half of all households in the area earn less than $21,000 annually, and 49.0 % of the population is currently living below the poverty line, more than triple the national poverty rate.

The financial instability of Yazoo City is caused by the weak job market. As the U.S. Census Bureau has stated, 11.8 % of workers in Yazoo City have been unemployed over the last couple of years. And unlike other U.S. cities, Yazoo has been continuously shedding jobs in recent years. The average home value in this city is $170,900.
