Taft, California

The typical home in California is $443,400. It’s true that the state has some of the most expensive real estate markets, but Taft is not in one of them. The median home value here is just $150,100, it’s even lower than the median home value nationwide, which is $193,500.

Unfortunately, these property values are suppressed by a high violent crime rate in the area. In fact, there were 884 violent crimes for every 100,000 citizens that lived here in 2017. This number is double the national violent crime rate! Reportedly, people that live in Taft are feeling financially insecure, as one in every four residents is currently living in poverty.
