2. Oklahoma

  • Median household income/paycheck: $1,847.62
  • The leftover income after covering monthly expenses: $936.86
  • Percentage of leftover income: 50.71 percent

It’s true. The Sooner State’s average paycheck is not as big as in the vast majority of U.S. states… Yet, it’s more than enough in order to cover monthly expenses and still end up with more than 50 percent left. All of this is possible due to Oklahoma’s low cost of living.

1. Mississippi

  • Median household income/paycheck: $1,558.77
  • The leftover income after covering monthly expenses: $809.68
  • Percentage of leftover income: 51.94 percent

The U.S. state that made it top of the list is Mississippi. People here are actually the least likely to live paycheck to paycheck. And yes, it has the lowest median household income in the nation, but as we’ve mentioned before, no matter how much money you make, living comfortably vastly depends on where you live.

So, because the Magnolia State has the lowest living cost in the whole country, its residents end up having more than 51 percent of their paychecks left after checking all expenses.
