Mortuary Cosmetologist

Do you have a cosmetology license but are finding it hard to find work in the industry? Perhaps you don’t like chair side chatter. In that case, here’s a morbid thought, but you could work as a mortuary cosmetologist.

Mortuary Cosmetologists make between $30,000 and $49,000 a year and typically need to take an additional desairology course from a cosmetology school where they learn how to use makeup designed for deceased individuals. Their job is to essentially make the deceased look like how their family and friends remember them.

What does that mean, exactly? Well, it means learning how to airbrush, apply makeup, and dive into facial reconstruction. Because of the nature of the job, people in the industry often require prior work experience in cosmetology on top of the previously mentioned educational requirements.

What kind of dangers are mortuary cosmetologists exposed to? There’s an obvious risk of exposure to bacteria and viruses, not unlike any other funeral industry job!
