10 Things You Didn’t Know About Joe Biden(No. 6 Surprised Me!)

  • He was sworn into the United States Senate in a hospital – Following the December 1972 car accident that claimed the lives of his first wife, Neilia and their 13-month-old daughter, Naomi “Amy” Biden, the newly elected United States President was sworn into office in January 1973, at the bedsides of sons Beau and Hunter, who were severely injured in the crash.
  • He ran for president three times – Joe Biden first ran for the presidency in 1987, but he dropped out of the race later that fall. His campaign was compromised, as a video surfaced of Biden giving a speech at the Iowa State Fair in which he quoted the U.K. Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock without attribution.
  • He and President Obama had weekly lunches – During his time under President Obama’s office, Biden and former President Obama would meet for weekly lunches. As part of their partnership, Obama promised that his VP would always be the final person he’d speak to before making a big decision. In exchange, Biden made a loyalty pledge, per “The New York Times”: “You make a decision, and I will follow it to my death.”
  • He screams for ice cream – As we found out from his interview in 2016, he doesn’t have any vices, except for ice cream. And even funnier than that is the fact that “Eater” reported in April 2020 that his presidential campaign had spent $10,000 on ice cream.
  • His favorite movie is “Chariots of Fire” – In 2008, President Joe Biden told Katie Couric that the 1981 British historical sports drama “Chariots of Fire” was his favorite. He stated that what he liked the most about it is how “there is a place where someone put personal fame and glory behind principles.”
