18 Things to Avoid at the Dollar Store

February 25, 2020 · Tips & Tricks

2. Anything With a Plug

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has shed some light on the fact that dollar stores have recalled a number of decorative lights and extension cords due to them being deemed as fire hazards. You should basically stay away from anything with a plug since most of these items are flimsy and poorly made.

In order to start a fire, all you need is a spark. And how do you get to a spark? Bad wiring wrapped in cheap plastic. A recipe for disaster in your own home, which you know will cost an arm and a leg to fix if anything goes wrong. It’s certainly preferable to losing an actual arm or leg. Simply avoid this by buying electronic devices or accessories that you can trust in your home.

Even when that USB cable looks like a deal, leave it behind and think of the safety of your home and family.

80 to 90 percent of those items safe or appropriate to buy. it is just like the so called professionals that tell you not to eat certain foods. It’s all a bunch of B.S.

Dollar General is convenient. much closer than a Walmart. I only buy name brand items which they have at good prices. Some items are just throw away items so quality does not matter. This author apparently is not a frequent shopper. You never know what you will find. I believe they get close outs on some name brand stuff and pass the savings to customers. You can also buy small sizes to try a product and see if you like it unlike the big box places, where every thing is super size.

I find your comments on the Dollar Tree products to be unfounded. They have name brand products that are bargains. You just have to look for them.

Its great that you all singles out Dollar Tree, but you really not persuading anyone to make a change, EVERYONE knows not to go to DT looking for quality stuff. Some people may not be able to shop at high dollar Walmart, Albertsons, King Super, etc. don’t knock a store that obviously is catering to someone who don’t have money like you do

No such word as spelt. I’m sure you meant spelled. AND to think you were commenting on someone else spelling incorrectly (yikes).

These are all true with “name brand” products. Yes, they are cheap, but also i have seen “name brand” food products, household cleaning supplies, children’s books, crayons (Crayola), Soda’s, “Coca Cola, Sprite, Pepsi) to name a few. Most of us go there for the cost because we don’t make middle class wages or even they go for the savings.
These are stressful times as well as cost has gone out of control. So a little relief for goods each month goes a long long way..
Don’t be so quick to judge or tear down small businesses or even larger companies for their lower cost items. Remember you too can have some poor individual sleeping at your door or begging for help.
Take the time to write about positive things in these times, not negative.

Best way to shop at Costco WITHOUT being a member? Everyone has a friend is a member.
Give the friend a specified amount of money, let’s say $100. Ask them to buy you a $100 gift card for $100. You go in as non member to use your $100. You can even buy over that hundred and pay the additional

So I guess you’re suggesting that we shouldn’t buy anything from a dollar store because it seems the 18 things that is suggested not to buy is pretty much everything people do buy at dollar stores.

I thought no most of this is hogwash unless it’s just talking about Dollar Tree or other stores where everthing actually costs a dollar. I think Dollar General has a lot of good name brands and have found that their store brand usually has good products.
