Rodriguez says that some companies could offer you something called “golden boot.” It is basically an incentive to retire. Depending on the company’s revenue, an incentive to retire could translate to monetary bonuses or increased vacation credits.

She also added that most companies use this tactic to leave more vacant positions, so they could eliminate them for good. And even when they don’t want to eliminate vacant positions left by recent retirees, they will still want you retired so they can fill your position with lower-salaried employees. Most companies are looking for students now more than middle-aged workers.
