6. Chappell and his ball of gum

Around 55 million people stopped smoking in 2018 according to the CDC. Many smokers start by using nicotine gum to curb their habit. Naturally if you are like me, after you have chewed long enough on a piece, the next step is to throw it away in the garbage.

Apparently we’ve been doing this all wrong because Barry Chappell has been saving and adding to a ball since 2006. His 62 inch circumference ball has gotten so big over the years that Ripley’s has registered it as “the world’s largest medicated gum ball”. Not wanting to litter on a flight, he rolled his gum in a ball and over the years has continued the process.
