What you would have bought with $100: Two rugs

Measuring 9 feet by 8 feet, back in the day, a Rose all-wool rug cost only $39.50 at Harris Furniture in Wyoming, meaning that you could get two rugs for under $100.

1957

What you would have bought with $100: One fur coat

Fur coats are not as stylish as they once were, but $100 was more than enough to purchase a 44 Townley Untrimmed Winter Coat from Annis Furs back in 1957. At least, that what an ad in the Detroit Free Press said.

1958

What you would have bought with $100: One washing machine

Buying a washing machine for less than $100?! Maybe you think we are joking, but back in 1958, an ad in the El Paso Herald-Post showed a washing machine from Frigidaire selling for $99.95.
