8 New Year’s Resolutions to Boost Your Savings in 2021 With Zero Effort

Say no to alcohol

According to researchers, Americans have been drinking more amid the coronavirus pandemic, compared to the same period last year. 14 percent more, to be exact. It might have seemed like a better way to cope with the whole situation but “in addition to a range of negative physical health associations, excessive alcohol use may lead to or worsen existing mental health problems, such as anxiety or depression, which may themselves be increasing during COVID-19,” says Michael Pollard, a sociologist at RAND.

Apart from the very important health issues, alcohol consumption also affects your wallet. Drinking one six-pack of beer and a bottle of wine per week might not seem much, but it can cost you around $20. That’s if you’re drinking at home. If you go to a bar, you will have to pay much more for some simple cocktails or a glass of wine. Eliminate those costs or at least reduce them and you will manage to save $1,000 on alcohol alone. Health and money, not bad, huh?
