  • Percentage of leftover income: 14.45 percent

New York residents are slightly luckier than California and Hawaii residents… Because they actually have lower living expenses, New Yorkers are able to make ends meet. However, they might want to find part-time jobs. (Here Are Some!)

47. Alaska

  • Median household income/paycheck: $2,863.23
  • The leftover income after covering monthly expenses: $548.28
  • Percentage of leftover income: 19.15 percent

Alaskans can brag about having the second-highest median household income in the country, but how about their living costs? After paying their monthly expenses, Alaska residents have less income than the vast majority of Americans.
