The States Where People Are Most and Least Likely to Live Paycheck to Paycheck

46. Maryland

  • Median household income/paycheck: $2,925.65
  • The leftover income after covering monthly expenses: $574.76
  • Percentage of leftover income: 19.65 percent

Which state has the highest median household income in the U.S.? Maryland! But how is this helpful if Maryland residents are forced to live paycheck to paycheck due to the state’s high living costs? If you’re living in the Old Line State, you might want to consider other options.

45. Oregon

  • Median household income/paycheck: $2,048.85
  • The leftover income after covering monthly expenses: $413.61
  • Percentage of leftover income: 20.19 percent

When compared to most U.S. citizens, Oregon residents have less leftover after taking care of their monthly expenses. A big chunk of money here goes toward living costs. Check your options first! If you can (and want to) live somewhere else, it might be a good idea to do so.
