11. Sharpen Your Mind

Forgetting things is a common part of getting old as minor lapses in memory are just a part of the normal changes in the structure and function of the brain that occurs as we age. Unfortunately, as frustrating as it can be, these changes can make it harder for older people to learn new things. But it doesn’t have to be this way as there are plenty of ways to keep the old gray matter as sharp as a knife to avoid diseases like Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s.

You should always strive to keep your mind as active as possible. Taking up drawing or painting, reading a book, doing a crossword or Sudoku puzzle are all simple things you can do to sharpen the mind. The best thing health experts encourage older people to do is to always try to learn new things as the old proverb ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’ is far from scientifically accurate.
