Since taking office President Trump has repeatedly made astonishingly bold yet astoundingly false statements, recorded not only in ink but by the watching TV cameras, yet time and time again when confronted with the paper thin veracity of his words he continues to deny or contradict his own words.
Claiming he has always taken the pandemic seriously deviates wildly from his previous comments. Comments that even if they were played back to him he would likely trumpet his famous ‘fake news’ fanfare despite the words clearly and provably coming out of his own mouth.
Infamously, when asked about the response, or lack thereof, from the US when dealing with the explosion of cases across the country he simply replied: “I don’t take responsibility at all”.
Even going so far as to say to PBS reporter Yamiche Alcindor her question was ‘nasty’ when she pointed out that his administration disbanded the White House Pandemic Office whose officials said ‘the White House had lost valuable time because that office was disbanded’
Not content with that he went on to say “When you say me, I didn’t do it,” the president continued. “We have a group of people, I could ask, perhaps my administration.” He then turned to Dr Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease. “Perhaps I could ask Tony about that? Because I don’t know anything about that.”
Although he now claims to have always taken this pandemic seriously and that his administration is doing a ‘great job’, he has repeatedly downplayed the threat posed by Covid-19, even going so far as to criticize concerns over the crisis as a “hoax”
He also suggested that the social distancing and isolation measures should be lifted around Easter despite every health professional warning that this timeline he is suggesting is wildly out of step with the current models of how this outbreak will play out over the coming months.
They also added that any lifting of restrictions put in place to quell the spread of coronavirus would be catastrophic and cause hospitals to overflow with sick and dying patients.
