The Game Resident Evil’s Umbrella Corporation Is Real

In the game Resident Evil, the main antagonist is the evil Umbrella Corporation who release a deadly virus that infects the citizens of Raccoon City. What really got people’s attention was when an image appeared online which showed the logo of the Chinese biotechnology company Shanghai Ruilan Bao Hu San Biotech Limited, a logo with striking similarity to the fictional company from the game.

The biological research lab is located in Shanghai, some 800 kilometers from Wuhan County where the virus was first detected in late 2019, and it’s true the logo does look the same (despite a change in colors). However, the company itself deals with different types of genetic tests to detect diseases or to check the status of the immune system in addition to working with the Shanghai Cancer Research Institute to develop tests to identify tumors.
