Loss leader pricing is a marketing strategy aimed to attract customers in the store and make them buy more, by offering significant discounts for a certain product (often at a price below its market cost).

Soda is usually one such product used to lure in customers. It is generally placed at the entrance to a store and can be bought at really low prices at the supermarket. Warehouse clubs have other products to focus on, which makes soda a better and cheaper purchase at the supermarket.
