- Coaching – Coaches have an incredibly important role in society. Through sports, they teach us what it means to be a man/woman, how to overcome difficulties and the importance of having a strong character. They are powerful influencers. But the job can be difficult in a marriage. The reason why coaching is on our list is that, oftentimes, they fail to spend enough time nourishing their relationships.
- Firefighter – In many communities, firefighters not only fight fires but also are the first to respond to many issues. The job is unique because it has two different components: moments of extreme stress and times of great freedom. The trauma and stress they’ve been involved in at work can create the recipe for disaster. Also, firefighters live in a male-dominated culture, and the thing with this culture is that it doesn’t respect women.
- Social Worker – The main idea with the helping professions is that they do great work and they are greatly underpaid. And this combination can impact the marriage because it comes with emotional distress. Social workers usually invest a lot and often see a little reward, and the problems just continue to mount. This can lead to frustration, added to the fact that the amount of money they bring in the family might not be sufficient.
- Massage Therapist – Any job that involves intimacy raises the risk of hurting one’s marriage. We’ve seen actors that have to pretend to love each other and ended up feeling real emotions develop. Massage therapists have to interact with their clients through physical touch, which can turn into sexual touch. Physical relaxation can create an emotional connection, and intimacy is something we all crave for.
