Sam’s Club sells a bulk pack of Vicks DayQuil/NyQuil Liquicaps for 17 cents per capsule, while Walmart’s offer for a 24-pack is somewhere around 36 cents per capsule. Expired medications might still work, at least according to Harvard Health, but keeping them in bulk is a sure way to reduce their efficacy long before you reach the bottom of the pack.
“Almost all antibiotics are prescribed for a full course, and therefore there should not be any leftovers,” says Dr. Kim Langdon, a clinical adviser at digital-health startup Medzino. “In the case of daily or chronic use, one year from dispensing is the safe expiration date.”
