2. Memphis, Tennessee

Resting along the Mississippi River in south-western Shelby County, Tennessee, Memphis’ population of 651,000 or so have struggled to reduce crime in the 21st century. Although, in 2004 violent crimes statistics had reached a record low in a decade, the following year would see the numbers rise critically making it the fourth-most dangerous city with a population of 500,000 or higher and would rise again in 2006. The trend upwards sadly continues to this day.

Rape – 494 – Rate per 1,000 – 0.76
Robbery – 3052 – Rate per 1,000 – 4.69
