Lying at the confluence of the Christina River and Brandywine River, near where the Christina flows into the Delaware River, Wilmington finds itself on these lists more often that its just over 70,000 residents would like. Things were particularly bad in the first half of 2017, when the mayor and other public advocates called for action as the city saw a shooting almost every other day throughout the spring, and there had already been 15 homicides by May.
