How much do you think you spend on soap over the course of a year? In 2019, we spent around $87, but since COVID-19 has reached our borders, sales for liquid and bar soaps have risen by 65%.
Because the average American’s response to the pandemic wasn’t constant throughout 2020, it’s a little more difficult to say exactly how much we spent so far, but we can try estimating. For example, if the 65% surge remained constant from February to December it would mean we spent an average of $135 on soap in 2020 alone.
We also have to consider the panic buying in spring when a lot of households stacked up on as much soap as possible, so it is possible that we spent a lot more than the estimated $135!
