According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the use of car seats can lower injury risks in case of an accident by 71% to 82% for children. Rear-facing is also much more efficient than simply using a seat belt.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, rear-facing is recommended until children are at least 2 years old. “We as child passenger safety technicians recommend as long as possible which means — depending on the child and the restraint — it could be until about 4 years old,” says child passenger safety technician Greg Durocher.
