It was concluded by the US authorities that the symptoms felt by the diplomats were consistent with pulsed radiofrequency/microwave radiation (RF/MW) exposure and that the vibrations they heard were also consistent with sounds caused by pulsed RF/MW. This would be the last time that this would happen to Americans working abroad as, in 2018, U.S. diplomats in China reported problems similar to those reported in Cuba. The CIA also said that some of their undercover agents operating in undisclosed countries experienced the same issues.
Sonic and ultrasonic weapons have been around for a few decades now, and despite there being no direct evidence that this really was a targeted attack, the American government is convinced that someone, if not the Cubans or Chinese then definitely the Russians, have a new weapon in their arsenal and they are directing it against US citizens.
