If we’re going to discuss the reasons why people sued fast-food restaurants then we need to bring up the infamous hot coffee lawsuit. It all went down in 1992 when Stella Liebeck who was 79 at the time spilled hot coffee on her when tiring to remove the lid from her cup.

We know what you’re thinking- what was she expecting? The case gained notoriety because of the following smear campaign, painting the old lady as the villain who just wanted to swindle the mammoth corporation out of a few thousand dollars. She asked McDonald’s to reimburse her $10,000 for medical bills because of her severe third-degree burns that required skin grafts.

McDonald’s initially offered her a meager $800 and, to make a long story short, Liebeck took them to court for gross negligence because the coffee they were selling was unreasonably and dangerously hot. In the end, the company was found to be 80% at fault and the judge awarded the 79-year old $200,000 in compensatory damages.

Today we’re going to look at 13 more astounding reasons people have sued fast-food chains that will make you laugh out loud!
