Sitting on the US-Canada border, Detroit is the state of Michigan’s largest and most populous city with an estimated population of just over 670,000. Detroit has had a long and tumultuous history with crime on its streets and garnered a rather bad reputation because of it. The crime rate has been above the national average since the 1970s, with the number of homicides peaking at 714 in 1974.
